The CAT A1/A2 theoretical training courses are the European version of the German (IHK) aircraft mechanic training program. The career target is all types of aviation operations, such as production or maintenance. They take approximately 55 days of training, depending on the chosen specialization: CAT A1 for gas turbines and CAT A2 for piston engines/propellers. Depending on the level of previous education and the desired goal, the course is taught in up to 17 modules. After passing the exam and recognition of the practical experience gained by the LBA, the corresponding license (AML) is issued.
The CAT B1/B2 training requires approximately 60 days. Generally, the mathematics and physics modules are recognized based on previous education. The modules electric/electronic fundamentals, digital techniques, materials, maintenance techniques, aerodynamics, aviation legislation, human factors, aircraft systems, gas turbines (B1.1) or piston engines and Propellers (B1.2) must be taken. Those who prioritize avionics (B2) will receive customized courses with more in-depth training in electronic modules such as aircraft avionics systems. With the B1/2 training and the associated certificate from HELIOS, you can apply for the coveted Part 66 license from the LBA after your practical experience has been recognized. The practical experience can be acquired at HELIOS or completed and documented through on-the-job training.
